Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 7, 2026
Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains how the CT Train App ("the App") handles your information.
1. Information We Collect
The App collects the following data:
- Account Information (optional): If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID, email address (if shared), and display name. This is stored securely in Google Firebase.
- Location Data (optional): If you grant permission, the App uses your location to find the nearest station. Location data is processed on-device only and is never stored on our servers.
- Feedback (optional): Signed-in users may submit feedback, which is stored in Firebase Firestore along with your user ID.
- Favorite Stations: Your saved stations and preferences are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. This data never leaves your device.
- AI Processing: The Train Assistant feature is powered by Apple Foundation Models and runs entirely on your device. No personal data is sent to any cloud service for AI processing.
2. Analytics and Crash Reporting
The App uses the following Firebase services to improve performance and stability:
- Firebase Analytics: Collects anonymized usage data such as screen views and feature usage. Analytics collection is enabled only if you grant App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission.
- Firebase Crashlytics: Automatically collects crash reports including device type, OS version, and stack traces to help us fix bugs. No personal data is included in crash reports.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring: Collects anonymized performance metrics such as app startup time and network latency.
3. Advertising
The App displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect:
- Device advertising identifier (IDFA), only with your ATT consent
- Anonymized device information (device type, OS version)
- Ad interaction data (impressions, taps)
If you decline ATT permission, ads are non-personalized and no advertising identifier is collected. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Network Requests
The App makes network requests to fetch publicly available transit data:
- CTtransit GTFS-Realtime feeds (vehicle positions, trip updates, service alerts)
- CTtransit GTFS static schedule data
- Firebase services (authentication, database, analytics, crash reporting)
5. Data Storage and Security
- On-device: Schedules, favorites, and preferences are stored locally using SwiftData.
- Firebase: Account information and feedback are stored in Google Firebase (hosted in the United States) and secured with Firebase security rules that restrict access to your own data only.
6. Your Rights and Data Deletion
You can manage your data at any time:
- Sign out: Available in Settings to disconnect your account.
- Delete account and data: Available in Settings. This permanently removes your account, feedback, and all associated data from Firebase. This action cannot be undone.
- ATT permissions: You can change ad tracking permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
7. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
8. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App is a general transit information tool suitable for all ages.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or on this page.
